The #Teamsters union is pressuring #Loop Transportation, which employs the drivers of Facebook’s shuttles, to recognize union representation for its #employees. “While your employees earn extraordinary wages and are able to live and enjoy life in some of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the Bay Area, these drivers can’t afford to support a family, send their children to school, or, least of all, afford to even dream of buying a house anywhere near where they work,” the Rome Aloise, the official, said in the letter. Aloise said that the “vast majority” of Loop’s 45 drivers on the Facebook route have signed cards expressing desire for Teamsters Local 853 to represent them. Facebook shuttle driver Jimmy Maerina said that he hopes union representation would give drivers power to fix many of the issues he is concerned about, in particular the low pay and split shifts.
